Week one:
I am  grateful for:
  1. Earl Grey tea delivered in person direct from London
  2. Saffron in little glass vials
  3. Knowing how to ask where, how much, and say “Haddee” (that!). Also, no thank you.
  4. Knowing where to find good coffee and cookies
  5. Having tromped the city in good company and knowing the lay of the land and feeling safe and generally competent
  6. What's App for keeping in touch
  7. My raincoat
  8. A heater—it is rainy torrentially and I am just warming up and drying out.
I am surprisingly very grateful for Pink (!) Little Darling Princess sheets for my double bed.  Flannel. Warm.

Am full of images to process. Here are a few to share.
I'm making friends with the M'dina. Medina means city, and the old city is made of what you might imagine to be wide hallways lined on both sides with Hanouks (tiny shops) and workshops smaller than twin sized beds, with no entrance other than over the table of goods. It is overwhelming, and sometimes like Pike Place Market on a busy tourist day, with no tourists, just narrow full hallways of people rushing here and there.

I've seen
  1. Parts of the old Jewish Melleh – another part of the Medina. Melleh means salt, among other things.
  2. Cats, so glutted, that they don’t fight over sardines
  3. The spring on the other mountain  (apparently where the locals wash their black BMW's)  by cab.
  4. The view from the rooftop in the morning, in the evening, whenever
  5. Fruit sellers standing in the rain, (and now, finally, under cover), selling his fruit all day long, 9-9
  6. Women walking in traditional hooded cloaks--only made from animal print fleece. (I'll show you that one later)
